Scrapbooks and scrapbook material consist primarily of newspaper clippings published at the close of the Civil War and during Reconstruction. Several clippings, taken from Baton Rouge newspapers, are reprints of articles originally printed in other newspapers. Among the clippings are numerous Baton Rouge obituaries. Local news includes articles on the Ku Klux Klan; resolutions of the White League (v. I, p. 29); a description of the damage caused by fire destruction at the State House in Baton Rouge (v. III, p. 10); and remedies for various medical conditions, including hydrophobia, whooping cough, cholera, and consumption (v. I). Other printed items include pamphlets on the dedication of St. Joseph's Cathedral and the history of the Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.
